New Discovery-Provincial Vietnamese Food

Its called The Tamarind Tree.

This is a really attractive restaurant. Very cool decor, with some concrete tables & interesting colors (check out the bathrooms too).

I recently went back for the 2nd time and was equally mystified by the menu. First time there I asked folks at the adjacent table what they were eating. They expressed a similar doubt and related that they just kept trying things and had yet to be disappointed!

Lots of things that could be ordered as a platter or bowl. The platters have the rice discs that you soak in hot water and roll up the goodies. They're served with cilantro, mung sprouts, rice noodle, mint and broad lettuce leaves for an alternative roll up. We tried the Yellow Fish and some skewered prawns, that were terrific. The portions on the platters are pretty large. You don't need to order a lot of stuff. I bet 4 people would be satisfied with 3 platters and an appetizer. I think the bill was around $25 for the 2 of us

Its off Jackson, maybe around 3rd or 4th, next to the Viet Wa market.

If you ever go to the Saigon Bistro, this is in the same area, a couple of hundred feet to the East.

Try something different and let us know!

I TRIED to tell you when it was new..but Nooooo..nobody listened, nobody commented. But now you'll pay..It appears to have been Discovered..(with a Capital D).

Went there again Thursday night and we lucked out to arrive before the crowds. The place really filled up! Had the Yellow fish again and some little pastry cups with shrimp..wow.. Menu is still hard to figure out, but everything was great. Really nice waitstaff.. they dodged each other masterfully and everyone seemed to take care of you as needed. There's a new patio too with a big waterfall thing.. pretty cool.
